PROJECT UPDATES: IRVIN, KEYS and VAN ZANT reported on the following: Eagle Creek Greenway -The 1.8-mile trail piece currently under construction will connect 56th and 46th Streets. This portion comprises part of a 16-mile corridor that would connect to Zionsville to the North and the White River Trail south of downtown. Much work has been completed, and a few things such as street crossings, signage and miscellaneous corrections are among the few items that remain to complete construction. Fall Creek Greenway -The bid packet for Phase II from 56th to Skiles Test (Shadeland Ave.) was re-bid at the end of May, and Harco Asphalt was low bidder at 1.3 million. Indy Parks still needs to get INDOT's approval for inspection services before a preconstruction meeting can be held. Pogues Run - Pogues Run Art and Nature Park native plant restoration continues, as biologists visited from Chicago this summer to assess the wetlands. Funding to develop a master plan with Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf Architects was cut, and Parks is still working on a way to spend funds provided by the Indianapolis Foundation for this project. Partnership development continues with the Caleb Mills Organization, IUPUI Center for Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Herron School of Art. Central Canal - Greenways has participated in a partnership with Indianapolis Water, Veolia Water Indianapolis, and IUPUI to clear the canal banks from 30th Street to Burdsal Pkwy to provide service road and eventually a trail. Veolia has already invested $71,000 on this initiative, and Community Baptist Church is pushing community issues and raising support for Veolia's work. Veolia has also made donations to the Greenways Foundation. These entities have joined forces with the community and churches to initiate a clean up of the area on July 23, 2005. Other partners in the cleanup include Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, the United Northwest Area, and DPW. Volunteers will meet at Community Baptist Church and spread out to clean both the Canal banks and the community streets between 30th St. and Burdsal Pkwy., and Riverside and MLK. SPECIAL PRESENTATION Americorps VISTA Students - Indy Parks Greenways has three student volunteers on staff this summer. The students were given scheduled projects they were to complete by the end of their 10 weeks with Greenways. The projects included initiating a walking group on Pleasant Run, completing beautification projects along the Pleasant Run Greenway, and assisting with Canal beautification projects, including a week-long project cleaning up and repairing the Central Canal Towpath with 19 Nazarene volunteers from Michigan. For their last week at Indy Greenways, they proposed to paint a mural at the 49th and Monon Winthrop Supply building. The committee approved the mural plan and made a motion to commend the students for their work with Greenways. Meeting adjourned 6:15PM Respectfully submitted by Lori Keys & Terri Van Zant, Indy Parks Greenways
