Boone County wants trailsOn June 23rd, 2001, The Indianapolis Star published the results of a public survey taken in Boone County (Union Township) concerning most-desired parks facilities. Parks Board President Jan Sommer was quoted as saying "We were surprised that soccer fields and baseball [diamonds] ranked low in people's priorities." So what did rank high? 66 percent wanted nature preserves along Mounts Run, Findley Creek and Eagle Creek; 55 percent wanted paved trails along major roads; 53 wanted trails connecting to Zionsville's trail network; and 48 percent wanted a centrally located park for community events. These findings buttress the conclusion that trails and greenways are popular throughout the Central Indiana region, and parallel the popularity of Indy Greenways. |
