New pedestrian bridge is open!

The new Broad Ripple pedestrian bridge officially opened Saturday, July 1, 2000 at 11 a.m. Constructed and transported from Montreal, the seafoam green structure straddles the Central Canal next to the College Avenue automobile bridge.

To make the event more festive, organizers handed out Bridge Buck coupons to everyone crossing the bridge for an hour following the ribbon-cutting. Bridge Bucks were coupons that could be redeemed for merchandise that day only at several participating Broad Ripple businesses. 250 people took part in the ceremonies.

The new bridge joins two restored 19th-Century bridges as wonderful additions to the Central Canal Towpath.
