The Fall Creek Trail (above) and the South Monon.

Housecleaning. renovation
Beginning this month, the Indy Greenways web site
will make some changes -- some content will change, some design will change,
some things will change behind the scenes -- and the process will take
a few months. We hope you'll like what we do.

The Monon Trail is open!
It's official -- all 10.5 miles
are open.
Except for . . .
In the coming weeks, phone utility crews will be working between 96th
and 86th Streets, causing some intermittent trail closings.

Eagle Creek Trail
The first phase of the Eagle Creek trail consists of a 1.8 mile section
from 56th Street to 46th Street at Eagle Creek Parkway. Meandering through
woodland, open park, and prairie settings, the trail uses berms and boardwalks.
While this project has had many delays in it short history, it is still
moving forward and should be completed next year. Currently the trail
project is being combined with the Pike Soccer Club Complex, so that the
two projects can be built simultaneously. Indy Parks Greenways is awaiting
final permit approvals and then the project will be bid. There is still
a good chance that the project will begin this year.
Monon Trail
The Monon is now open to ride, walk or skate from the Fall Creek Trail
to 16th Street. All bridge work is done, fencing and railings are installed,
landscaping is complete, signs are posted, pavement is striped, and emergency
call boxes are operational. Still to come is the final work from 16th
Street to 10th Street (Monon's Southern Terminus). Currently Hyperfix
workers are still finishing along this part of the corridor. This portion
should be complete by October 1, 2003.
Fall Creek Trail
This extension of the Fall Creek Trail will connect the existing portion
(56th Street to Keystone) to the Monon Trail. A new pedestrian bridge
allows users to cross over Fall Creek from the trailhead at Keystone,
providing unique views of the water below. Upon crossing the new bridge,
users will find themselves in an open area bordered by a forest with many
kinds of birds singing overhead. The corridor safely winds under Keystone
Avenue and along the creek bank toward another open area lined with trees.
Many road improvements were done to allow users to travel safely along
Millersville Road to 38th Street. With the assistance of a flashing light,
the trail crosses 38th Street and uses the existing south sidewalk. Bikers
are encouraged to walk their bikes along this section. The sidewalk ends
at Fall Creek Parkway where the new trail asphalt begins and follows alongside
Fall Creek Parkway all the way up to the Monon Trail. There are still
a few trail safety issues to wrap up on this project such as signs and
railing, therefore users are advised to enter at their own risk. Remaining
landscaping, such as trees and shrubs, will be installed this fall.
