Detroit officials to visit Indy Greenways
(Summer 1999)
Southeast Michigan officials responsible for development of a regional
greenway system in the Detroit area are scheduled to visit Indianapolis
in September to observe Indy Greenways. "We're flattered that these planners
from Detroit feel they can learn from what we've built here in Indianapolis,"
says Indy Greenways Administrator Ray Irvin. Notes Lori Mariacher, Indy
Greenways Projects Manager, "When you realize that the state of Michigan
has about 1,200 miles of rail-trails in total, versus less than 100 here
in Indiana, it says that Indianapolis has shown a lot of leadership in
this area."
