Eastwood School plants treesThe Upper Fall Creek Loop Trail was the site of an environmental project October 30, as 35 students from Eastwood Middle School planted 20 native trees. Although most of the soil on site was heavily compacted clay with a substantial amount of rocks and gravel, the young volunteers set about the task with just shovels. Occasionally the planting holes had to be broken up with a pulaski (pick axe). All twenty trees got planted within the two-hour period. During the course of planting and for a few minutes afterward, the students were given the opportunity to learn what trees need, especially for good root growth.
