White River Clean-up 2002

Hardworking volunteers picked up a lot of trash during our 14th Annual White River Clean-up, which took place Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20. The focus of this effort was the west bank of White River from the Indianapolis Zoo to Raymond Street.

Saturday's forecast for morning rain did not come true and the clean-up took place in almost ideal weather -- cool and dry. The snapshots at left give a glimpse of the immense work there was to be done, followed by photos of the trash and trash bags collected and stacked for pickup by city workers. Below are shots of some of the nearly 100 volunteers who worked the event.

Friday's work was done by local school groups, while the public volunteer gathering took place Saturday. Many thanks to all volunteers, many of whom were employees of Lilly, GM and Allison. Thanks also go to partners National Starch, White River Environmental Partnership, Friends of the White River and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, along with board members from the all-volunteer Greenways Foundation and staff from Indy Parks Greenways.
