Volunteer efforts in 2001During November, students from Christ the King School picked up trash at Town Run Trail Park. Eastwood Middle School students planted trees October 30 at the Upper Fall Creek Loop Trail. Volunteers from One Stop Laundry Shop cleaned up litter along the Monon October 20. Girl Scouts from Troop 1001 harvested wildflower seed along the Monon October 8. Bicycle Action Project volunteers worked at Town Run Trail Park October 6. IUPUI geology students planted trees in the floodplain of Pleasant Run September 29. Some southside students from Lutherwood pitched in to clean up the banks of south White River September 21. Project Enhance returned to do more work July 19, as middle-schoolers weeded and cleaned up trash -- and found an unusual trailside inhabitant. On June 27, middle school students landscaped the Ruggles Fountain as a part of Project Enhance. Volunteers planted silver maple trees in the flood plain in Town Run Trail Park, on May 5, 2001. On April 24, students from Coldsprings Academy and Nora Elementary chipped in on two clean-up projects. Town Run Trail Park was the scene of a clean-up on April 22, with help from Indy Spoke Breakers and Friends of the White River. The 13th Annual White River and Greenways Clean-up was a huge success as scores of neighbors turned out to help. And that same day, on the Monon Trail at 49th Street, Girl Scouts began planting a garden as part of an Urban Beautification Project. March 31 was a busy day as Girl Scouts planted pine trees and 75 volunteers helped with our Fall Creek Clean-up. Earlier this year, the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association celebrated St. Patrick's Day by performing trail maintenance at Town Run Trail Park. The Urban Art Project on the Monon between 52nd and 54th Streets is a great work, and now it will spread three blocks to the south, as the 49th Street Urban Art Project. Artists should apply now to be a part of this fabulous collaboration of talent! |
