Award Categories

Outstanding Public Official

Many great trails start with visionary and passionate public officials who make them happen. This category is specific for those working in the public sector who have demonstrated success with trail networks at their level of responsibility. All Indiana-based elected and non-elected officials at any level of government service are eligible.

Outstanding Trail Advocate

Many miles of trails in Indiana have come about due to the hard work and long hours put forth by private citizens. This award recognizes an individual for his or her success in promoting, developing and/or maintaining trails.

Outstanding Trail Group

Indiana has a number of groups that have formed to champion trail development, and many miles have been constructed due to their creative strategies and passionate members. This category recognizes an outstanding group, either formal (501 c3) or informal (ad hoc), that has demonstrated real success in expanding Indiana’s burgeoning trail network.

Outstanding Corporation

Over the years, many businesses have come to appreciate trails as true quality of life enhancers for their employees, and the communities where they reside. This award recognizes a private corporation in Indiana that has gone the extra mile to support trails and promote their use.

Outstanding Trail Project

Indiana’s trail network continues to grow, and there are many great trail projects to celebrate. This category is for those new trail-based projects that opened during the previous calendar year. Eligible projects include off-road surface trails (and related bridges), water trails, equestrian trails and trailheads.

Outstanding Local Government

Great trail networks usually start with a commitment from local government leaders. This category recognizes cities, towns or counties that have demonstrated success in the development, promotion and management of trail facilities.
