A Big Step Forward: Evansville Region Trails Master Plan Complete!
Spring 2025 — A Milestone for Southern Indiana
The Evansville Region Trails Master Plan is Complete!
We’re thrilled to share exciting news from Southwest Indiana! With a $10,000 grant from the Greenways Foundation and the hard work of many local partners, the Evansville-Area Trails Coalition (ETC) has completed the region’s first-ever Trails Master Plan—a bold, visionary roadmap that sets the stage for a more connected, healthy, and active future.
Developed in partnership with Butler, Fairman & Seufert, a leading civil engineering firm specializing in trail systems, and with collaboration from the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Board of Park Commissioners, and Evansville city leadership, this plan is a major step forward for active transportation and outdoor recreation in our region.
The Master Plan identifies priority corridors and trail projects to connect neighborhoods, parks, businesses, cultural destinations, and regional cities—creating a seamless trail network that will benefit residents and visitors alike.
What’s Next?
Now that the plan is complete, the real work begins:
Pursuing funding through grants, public-private partnerships, and local investments
Mobilizing community support to champion the plan’s vision
Accelerating trail development by leveraging outside funding to stretch local dollars further
Strengthening regional partnerships to unify efforts across city and county lines
Breaking ground on high-impact projects that bring immediate benefits to the community
This is just the beginning. With a shared commitment to accessible, equitable, and sustainable transportation options, we’re building the infrastructure to support healthier lives, stronger communities, and economic vitality across the Evansville Region.
